Bridge work in Patterson

Patterson city crews started working on the sagging Shady Grove Street bridge Monday and continued today. Workers removed the top of the bridge in preparation for the installation of a prefabricated culvert seen in the background. Mayor Rodney Grogan does not think the work will be completed in time to have garbage pickup Wednesday and will be working to have a special pickup on Friday. If not Friday, the next scheduled garbage pickup will be Saturday.

Bayou Vista street flooding

A quick rain Monday afternoon flooded Bayou Vista streets. Todd Mogged, observing program leader for the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, said rainfall totals recorded across the parish were 0.37 inches in Morgan City and 1.36 inches at Franklin. “It’s all this kind of heat-induced stuff, and they’re all very scattered in nature, especially since you don’t have any type of upper level or surface trigger,” Mogged said.
