Patterson Mayor Rodney Grogran briefs about 25 volunteers who showed up at 8 a.m. Saturday to take part in the Great American Cleanup event under the bridge at Federal Street and Greenwood Avenue. Great American Clean-Up anti-littering events have been scheduled for sites around the parish.

BAYOU VISTA — Central Catholic outlasted False River, 2-0, in the second-round of the Class 1A playoffs Thursday behind Megan Landry’s 12-strikeout gem to advance to the quarterfinals in Sulphur.

Welcome center to open Tuesday

The Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau Welcome and Intrepretative Center is scheduled to open Tuesday. A grand opening celebration is planned Aug. 20.

The new $4 million Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau Welcome and Interpretative Center is set to open to the public Tuesday, according to Cajun Coast Executive Director Carrie Stansbury.

Amelia firefighters to get nearly $100,000 for gear

The Amelia Volunteer Fire Department learned Wednesday it will receive a $96,976 federal grant to be used to purchase breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera, Chief Carl McAllister said.
