The St. Mary Parish Council meeting on Wednesday was a showcase of new faces as a candidate for an interim appointment to the council was sworn in and a candidate for a place on the Franklin Foundation Hospital Board of Commissioners introduced herself to the council and made her case for her candidacy.

J-turns will be interim fix for U.S. 90

The state will start installing J-turns along U.S. 90 in Patterson within the next year to improve safety on the highway. U.S. 90 will eventually be upgraded to become part of I-49. (The Daily Review/Crystal Thielepape)

Within the next year, Tri-City residents should begin to see J-turns installed in the Patterson area to cut down on the number of wrecks along U.S. 90.

City cleanup crew

Community volunteers gathered for the monthly Franklin cleanup Oct. 10. Participants included Meagan Bourque, Ella Hamilton, Tate Bourque, Marguerite Robinson, Dianna Alexander and Didi Battle.

Dredging continues in Berwick Bay

Manson Construction Co. began dredging Berwick Bay Sept. 19 and will finish the project in about a month. The contract dredged about a 3-mile stretch from 20 Grand Point and Tidewater Point to Stouts Pass. Dredging should start in the Atchafalaya River Bar Channel Oct. 29 and could last up to 100 days.

Dredging work is ongoing in Berwick Bay and set to begin in the Atchafalaya River Bar Channel by the end of October in an effort to keep the area’s waterways deep enough for vessels to navigate.
