A Business After Hours party to kick off the Black Bear Festival was held Thursday at the Teche Theatre for the Performing Arts in Franklin. The St. Mary Chamber of Commerce event included musical entertainment by Rick Lorenzo and many local food vendors. The festival kicks off tonight at 6 and continues through Sunday.
About 50 trees along the northern border of Franklin Senior High School are set to be cut down by a natural gas pipeline company.

Summer heat arrives

Children were enjoying an assortment of water fun at Bayou Vista Community Center Spray Park on June 18. Water parks should prove popular this week as temperatures are forecast at around 90 and heat indexes around 100, according to the National Weather Service.

St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce scholarships

Several students were recognized by the St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce during Thursday’s annual Education and Appreciation Night. Each student received a $1,500 scholarship.
