The Franklin Rotary Club and the Franklin Garden Club were the sponsors for the Jan. 14 city cleanup. Target areas included Teche Drive, the rear of the courthouse, the Teche Theater and Franklin Supermarket area.

Christianity's holiest season begins today

The Lenten season is now under way with today's observance of Ash Wednesday. Several people wait in line to receive the imposition of ashes from the Rev. Bill Rogalla of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bayou Vista during an Ash Wednesday service this morning.

After indulging in the excesses of food and fun during Mardi Gras season, today many Tri-City area residents will line the aisles of their churches to receive ashes marking the first day of Lent.
