The Patterson 10U All-Stars made an impressive run through the Louisiana Babe Ruth State Tournament en route to a runner-up finish Sunday in Brusly. After opening its tournament action with a 19-0 win against Westside Friday, Patterson fell Friday evening to St. Charles, 3-0.
Franklin’s inaugural “First Thursday” event is this week. The downtown promotion will be Thursday beginning at 1 p.m.
A woman and her 10-year-old son were displaced after a fire broke out at their rented residence at 411 Nora St. Monday morning. Franklin Fire Chief Chuck Bourgeois said the fire was reported at 7:41 a.m. Response time was 3 minutes with heavy smoke and flames showing on the left side of the brick house upon arrival.

Flipped 18-wheeler on U.S. 90 blocks traffic 6 hours

A tractor-trailer loaded with hay flipped on its side on the westbound lane of U.S. 90 east of the Hollywood Truck Plaza Sunday morning. The wreck blocked traffic for about six hours, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.

Shrimp and Petroleum Festival on target for Labor Day Weekend

Hailee Thomas, of Morgan City, was crowned Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival queen and Michael Patterson, of Berwick, was named king during the festival’s coronation court on Saturday at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. Patterson is president and CEO of Central Boat Rentals. He graduated from Nicholls State University in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is a board member and past chairman of the Atchafalaya Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute and St. Mary Golf and Country Club, and a board member of the Lakewood Hospital Foundation and the Petroleum Club of Morgan City. He and his wife, Erin, have two children. Thomas, 19-year-old daughter of Seth and Mary Thomas, of Morgan City, is a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Morgan City. She attends the University of Louisiana at Lafayette majoring in interior design. They will reign over the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival to be held Thursday through Monday in downtown Morgan City.
