An organization of civil engineers is calling for a national strategy for mitigating flood risks, saying the U.S. has not fully heeded lessons from Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy. The American Society of Civil Engineers released its recommendations Monday during a conference on water issues in Philadelphia.

The Morgan City Tigers may have entered Friday’s game riding a 17-game losing streak, but the Tigers certainly didn’t play like a team struggling for a victory. The Tigers came out firing and by halftime had offensive, defensive and special teams’ touchdowns en route to a 48-12 victory against the Wolfpack.

Charles “Chuck” Landry and Sheila Adams were named Krewe of Adonis King and Queen XXXIX Saturday at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. The men’s krewe held the first Mardi Gras ball in the Tri-City area. In keeping with the tableau theme, “Adonis Candy Emporium,” Adams represented “Queen Honeybee” and Landry was “Bit-O-Honey.” The krewe will hold the first parade of the season at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 in Morgan City.
