An organization of civil engineers is calling for a national strategy for mitigating flood risks, saying the U.S. has not fully heeded lessons from Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy. The American Society of Civil Engineers released its recommendations Monday during a conference on water issues in Philadelphia.

The Morgan City Tigers may have entered Friday’s game riding a 17-game losing streak, but the Tigers certainly didn’t play like a team struggling for a victory. The Tigers came out firing and by halftime had offensive, defensive and special teams’ touchdowns en route to a 48-12 victory against the Wolfpack.
St. Mary Community Action Agency Head Start’s Health and Disability staff are working with Head Start families, teaching staff and community partners to complete mandated screenings for developmental, sensory and behavioral concerns.

Food booths raise money for causes

Festival-goers continue to line up for food in Lawrence Park despite rain Saturday.

The festival weekend featured lots of food, much of it sold by non-profits in Lawrence Park to benefit various charitable causes, and one group even gave away free jambalaya.
