Former Gov. Edwin Edwards, a candidate for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District, says the major issues for the state and country include coastal erosion, ensuring domestic oil and gas production, fixing Obamacare, and getting U.S. troops out of Afghanistan.

An infusion of young talent has the Berwick football program looking forward to big things. The Panthers’ freshman and sophomore classes come in with a winning tradition. When Craig Brodie took over the Berwick program, he reached out to junior high and youth league coaches in the area.

First round of qualifiers

Candidate qualifying for the Nov. 4 election began this morning and continues through Friday. Local candidates who have signed up thus far include: —Baldwin mayor: Michael “Mike” Lancelin. —Baldwin police chief: David J. Robertson. —District judge, Div. G: Lucretia Pecantte and Curtis Sigur.
