A Morgan City couple, who has been charged with multiple counts of theft from an investment holdings company, filed a lawsuit Tuesday saying the company and company’s spokesman made “false accusations” against them in a lawsuit and to the media.

Call me weird but when those after-dinner-hour phone solicitors call wanting someone over 18 in the household to participate in a survey, I’m always game. Maybe it’s because of my college days when I studied statistics, where I really understand the concept and importance of real probabilities.
The staff of Franklin Health Care Center recently presented plaques of appreciation to Sy. Mary Parish President Paul Naquin and Heart of Hospice Chaplain Brian Johnson. The plaques were given in recognition of the dedication and services provided to the staff and residents of the health care center.

Bayou Vista Elementary celebrating 50th anniversary

Bayou Vista Elementary is celebrating its 50th anniversary this school year. Monthly activities have been planned. The students and teachers dressed up in 1950’s attire for the 50th day of school. Also, the student body posed for a 50th picture. The community is invited to the 50th Celebration Carnival on the school grounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Marine Corps birthday observance

In celebration of the Marine Corps’ 239 years, David Martin, junior vice commandant of the Marine Corps League’s Department of Louisiana and commandant for the St. Mary Detachment, cut a piece of cake and handed it to senior Marine Bob McClelland, who handed it to the youngest Marine, David Picou III, at the American Legion Hall in Patterson on Monday. The ceremony was part of the official birthday celebration and symbolizes the handing down of traditions and information.

Emergency call in Bayou Vista

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Office spokeswoman Traci Landry confirmed at about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday that the department is investigating a death at Phoenix International in Bayou Vista. Sheriff’s patrol cars were at the scene along with fire trucks. No other details were available.
