Officials with St. Mary Parish Schools avoided trouble when they decided not to rely on a type of state aid that was subsequently cut. But question marks remain about how much school aid St. Mary can expect from the cash-strapped state government.

Area legislators were the guests at a St. Mary Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday in Franklin. Representative Beryl A. Amedee, (Dist. 51) was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in November, 2015 and an “unprecedented” series of legislative sessions awaited.

Wind knocks down some trees, lines

Morgan City police and firefighters and utility crews were called out late Tuesday morning when strong wind blew down a utility pole at Railroad and Grizzaffi streets in Morgan City. The downed lines were a small taste of what was expected, but the region escaped with only minor storm damage.

Wind damage caused some tree limbs to fall resulting in power outages Tuesday in the Tri-City area, but no major damage was reported as a result of the storms, area officials said.
