Angela Deville of the St. Mary Soil & Water Conservation District recently presented a program at Julia B. Maitland School. She was assisted by Sheila Bonvillain, an Earth Team volunteer. Students were taught the difference between dirt and soil and how important soil is in their lives.
St. Mary Parish Safe and Drug Free Schools representatives and Louisiana State Police were at West St. Mary High School last week in preparation for their prom night. In lieu of presenting a mock car crash with lights and sirens, they opted for a low key video presentation because some students were undergoing testing.
A substantial amount of money was stolen at gunpoint from the Exxon gas station in the 600 block of U.S. 90 West shortly after 7:45 a.m. today, Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle said. An armed man, fully clothed and masked, brandished a revolver demanding money from the teller who complied, LaSalle said.

5K Run/Walk set Saturday
