NCAA Indoor and Outdoor 400-meter champion Vernon Norwood of LSU led the special award winners on the Louisiana Sports Writers Track and Field College Team announced this past weekend by the organization.
New officers of the Rotary Club of Franklin were installed at a special banquet on June 30. From left are District 6200 Assistant Governor Lea Hebert, who performed the installation; James Evans IV, incoming president; Peggy Lewis, secretary; Iris Sharpe, treasurer; Tom Kramer, sergeant at arms; and Ron Bailey, outgoing president.
The bridge over the Franklin Canal on Chatsworth Road is now closed for major renovation by Coastal Bridge Co. of Baton Rouge. It is scheduled to reopen on July 27. Detour routes are posted.

Berwick joins Independence Day bash

Rock the Fifth, Berwick’s patriotic celebration, will be held July 5 along the banks of the Atchafalaya River near the Everett S. Berry Memorial Lighthouse Park. Levee chief: Red River flooding won't have much impact here
