The Dixie Youth North Regional Tournament wrapped up Wednesday in Bayou Vista with two teams from northern Louisiana claiming championship titles. West Ouachita 12-year-olds and Shreveport American 10-year-olds will continue on to the state tournament this weekend.

The City Council gave approval Tuesday for engineers to move forward with the design and bid process of a project to replace the city’s existing wharf on Berwick Bay and extend the wharf to the south by almost 150 feet.

The funds were to be used in the fourth annual Farmer’s and Rancher’s Appreciation Banquet held July 18. The annual banquet is a chance to show gratitude to the agricultural community throughout the parish. This year’s banquet featured guest speaker Commissioner Mike Strain with the Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

The donation, worth about $475,000, will satisfy the 12 percent matching funds requirement to get state funding.
