Franklin prepares for 2013 hurricane season

Hurricane Season begins Saturday and City of Franklin staff met Tuesday to help keep everyone in St. Mary Parish have the proper information to prepare for such an event.

Franklin’s department heads participated in a panel discussion to inform residents and assist them in their preparations for this hurricane season. The discussion was filmed by Teche Talk Productions and will be broadcast at approximately 7:45 p.m. Thursday on Cox Cable Channel 4.

The panel included Mayor Raymond Harris, Chief of Police Sabria McGuire, Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Hildreth, Water Plant/Distribution Center Director Bernard Daniels, Director of Administration Karen LeBlanc, Planning and Zoning Director Blake Steiner and Public Works Director Jeremy Smith. Each talked about their department’s role before, during and after a storm, emphasizing important points that the public needs to know in order to fully understand what the City of Franklin and its residents can do together to prepare for a storm and stay safe.

The panelists answered questions on topics such as how the City of Franklin prepares for a hurricane, the person in charge of communicating with citizens, duties of residents when they prepare to evacuate, returning home after a hurricane, debris removal and water production.
