Franklin Hornets turn back Morgan City Tigers
MORGAN CITY _ Franklin quarterback Jarion Brown fired a 47-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Derrick Kelly, leading the FSHS Hornets to a 6-0 win over the Morgan City Tigers in the St. Mary Parish Jamboree Friday at Tiger Stadium.
Franklin gained the lead in the first period and held on before heavy rain soaked the soggy field in the second half.
On the scoring drive, Brown rifled a bullet to Kelly on the 47-yard bomb with 6:27 showing in the first half. The extra-point was no good and the Hornets clung to the 6-0 lead.
Morgan City twice drove deep into Franklin territory only to have penalties negate the gains.
On the night, Brown connected on 6 of 8 passes for 133 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Stephon Poledore led the Hornets in rushing with three carries for 51 yards.
Brennan Robinson was the top receiver for FSHS with four catches for 73 yards while Kelly had two grabs for 60 yards, including the 49-yard TD.
Franklin will play host to West St. Mary on Friday in the regular season opener.
