Franklin Hornets capture Foster/Perry Relays title

Franklin Senior High School boys and the Opelousas Lady Tigers strolled away with the 2013 Foster/Perry Relays titles Friday at the Albert Perry Track at J. C. Dry Stadium at FSHS.

Cedric Paul and Damien Williams sparked the Franklin Hornets to the title in the 30th annual Foster/Perry Relays with outstanding performances in their individual events.

Paul, who garnered the Outstanding Performer honor, was a triple winner on the day, capturing first place in shot put (57-10), discus (149-0) and javelin (152-7).

Outstanding Trackman Williams posted victories in the 100 (11.22) and the 300 meter hurdles (43.57), a second place finish in the 110 meter hurdles while also running a leg on the Hornets winning 4x200 meter relay team (1:30.68) where he joined Trey Rouchon, Mark Ruffin and Brennen Robison.

Morgan City’s Malcolm Watkins was received the Outstanding Field honor.

Other winners for the Hornets were: Derrick Kelly, high jump, 6-2; Trey Rouchon, 400, 52.72.2 and Larry Grimm, 800, 2:13.95.

Other top finishers for the Hornets included: Shon Johnson, long jump, second, 20-7¾; Damien Williams, 110 hurdles, second, 15.00; 4x400 meter relay (Rouchon, Ruffin, Johnson, Grimm) second, 3:39.14; Brennen Robinson, high jump, third, 6-0; Jarion Brown, triple jump, third, 42-9 ¼; Mark Ruffin, 100, third, 11.48; Mark Ruffin, 200, third, 22.45;

Leading the way for the West St. Mary Wolfpack was Thaddeus Gabriel with a second place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 6-0. Mason Robinson was the runnerup in the 400 with a 54.43 reading while Kyler Jackson placed third in the 110 hurdles in the time of 15.60.

Sean Fore won the pole vault to lead the Hanson Memorial Tigers on the day.

Franklin Lady Hornet Angelica Blanks was honored with the Outstanding Field award while Gerianna Lyons of West St. Mary won the Outstanding Performer honor and Opelousas High School’s Armani Bennett was the recipient of the Outstanding Track honor.

The Franklin Lady Hornets finished as this year’s runnerup with the Opelousas Lady Tigers winning the title by outdistancing Franklin by eight points at 125-117.

Blanks was a triple winner on the day, recording victories in the high jump (4-10), long jump (15-0) and the triple jump (34-9).

Other top performers for Franklin were: Wyneisha Jenkins, 400, first, 1:04.02; Samantha Frederick, 1600, first, 8:01.85; 4x100 meter relay (Destinee Rice, Robyn Rollins, Fabian Small, Zharia Brown), first, 52.09; 4x200 meter relay (Rice, Rollins, Small, Wyneshia Jenkins), first, 1:49.02; Fabian Small, 200, second, 26.35; Chardonnae Parker, 800, third, 2:55.03; 4x400 meter relay (Iman Key, Parker, Jenkins, Frederick), third, 4:57.11.

Lyons was also a triple winner, posting wins in the three field events including the shot put (39-5), discus (106-5) and javelin (104-6).

Other top finishers for the Lady Wolfpack included: Naishaliyn Brown, 100, first, 12.98; Sequoya Ferguson, long jump, second, 14-11; Kimberleigh Theriot, 400, second, 1:08.66; 4x100 meter relay (Sequoya Ferguson, Rhaya Marks, Naishaylin Brown, Jamisha Vincent), second, 52.61; 4x200 meter relay (Ferguson, Marks, Brown, Vincent), second, 1:52.90; 4x400 meter relay (Kimberleigh Theriot, Jakyrin Connor, Cidnie Ladd, Brown) second, 4:45.52.

Hanson’s Katie Sonnier won the 3200 meters with a 16:15.41 reading.

Other top finishers for the HMS Lady Tigers were: Olivia Luke, shot put, second, 31-10; Dominique Montecino, 3200, second, 18:13.00; Carly Fitzgerald, 100 hurdles, second, 17:05; Olivia Luke, javelin, third, 76-11; Dominique Montecino, 1600, third, 8:27.35; Carly Fitzgerald, 300 hurdles, third, 57.18.

Centerville High School’s top performer was Dolores Hahn with a second place finish in the 1600 M8>21.39).

Other top finishers for the Lady Bulldogs were: Olivia Thibodeaux, discus, third, 85-1 and Lakeriante Hawkins, 200, third, 26.55.
