Franklin Foundation receives Excellence in Patient Care kudo

Franklin Foundation Hospital was chosen to receive an Excellence in Patient Care award given by outcomes firm Studer Group.

The hospital received the award for their exemplary “pain control” ratings on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems patient survey. It was presented at the 10th annual What’s Right in Health Care conference.

HCAHPS is a national standardized survey tool used to measure adult inpatient perception of the quality of care they receive at a given acute care hospital.

The 27-question survey was created in 2002 by the combined efforts of The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Scores are publicly posted four times a year at

Studer Group gives its Excellence in Patient Care awards to select partners based on very high scores in each of the HCAHPS categories. Franklin Foundation Hospital received this award in the “0-100 beds” category for having the best responses to several HCAHPS questions relating to pain management and medication.

“The relationship between pain control and healing is well-documented,” said Quint Studer, founder of Studer Group. “All hospitals know what to do, but they don’t all know how to do it effectively. It’s about alignment, consistent action, and accountability. The best ones put systems in place to make sure patients are as comfortable as possible for the entire length of stay—every department, every patient, every day.”
