Franklin City Council meets Wednesday

Franklin City Council members will meet Wednesday, skipping their usual monthly meeting date due to Mardi Gras.

On the agenda are guests Theresa Warren, West St. Mary Relay for Life; David Bourdier, presenting the Cypress Sawmill Festival Queens; Chad Boutte, Let’s Go Riding Franklin; and Lindy Broussard, CenterPoint Energy.

Departmental reports include Arlana Shields, Office of Development director, with a Youth Summer Arts Program announcement, and Blake Steiner, building inspector, with one flood control variance and three property condemnations.

Ordinances for introduction include changing the name of Oneal Chube Street to Oneal Chube Drive. The council approved an ordinance recently renaming Fourth Street to Oneal Chube Street. Also for introduction is an ordinance changing the name of Legends Field at Broussard-Harris Recreation Center to Whitney Noel Beverly Sr. Field.

Resolutions include allowing the mayor to enter into a cooperative agreement with the Office of Children and Family Services for a Disaster Supplemental Assistance Program at the Franklin Recreation Center, and lifting the ban on fireworks and noise Saturday, April 14 for the Relay for Life event.

Mayor Raymond Harris is slated to report on a response from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development regarding the traffic signal at La. 182 and Weber Street. The city asked DOTD for a left turn signal in the westbound lane. And Councilman Dale Rogers is scheduled to discuss dogs in city parks.

The council meets at 6 p.m. at City Hall on Iberia Street.
