Franklin captures Dixie South Regional title
PONCHATOULA, LA — Franklin captured the 2012 Dixie Baseball South Championship with consecutive victories over Metarie-based Little Farms here Tuesday at Ponchatoula Field.
Franklin denied Little Farms the title with consecutive victories by scores of 3-1 and 5-2 on Monday.
In the opener, Franklin benefited from solid pitching from Noah Judice and Skyler Fitch to post the 3-1 victory. Judice was the winning pitcher after hurling five complete frames. Fitch notched the saved after entering for Judice in the final inning.
Skyler Fitch took control in the second game, tossing five complete innings to help Franklin earn the 5-2 victory. Brian Sonnier collected the save in the second game with one inning of work.
Franklin posted a near-flawless 5-1 overall record in the Majors (11-12s) South Regional.
Franklin opened play with a 6-0 victory over Franklinton on Friday. A long rain delay resulted in Franklin dropping a 5-4 loss to Moss Bluff late Saturday evening.
Franklin hammered host Ponchatoula 10-1 on Sunday, eyeing a rematch with Moss Bluff.
Franklin wasted little time in topping Moss Bluff in the rematch, building a 4-1 lead en route to a 4-3 victory on Monday, earning a berth in the championship round against Little Farms.
Franklin, needing to defeat Little Farms twice to win the title, rose to the occasion by pinning 3-1 and 5-2 losses on Little Farms to seize the Majors (11-12s) South Regional Championship on Monday.
Franklin won the District III Championship with a perfect 4-0 record last weekend in Morgan City. On Monday, the Franklin All-Stars polished off another outstanding title run by claiming the Dixie Baseball South Regional Tournament Title with a 5-1 overall record.
Franklin, the South Regional Title Champion, will be going to state later this week to face the North Regional title winner.
