Former FPD chief Louviere dies at 75
Former Franklin Police Chief Henry Gerald Louviere Sr. passed away Sunday. He was 75.
Louviere was born Jan. 14, 1936. He was a native of Jeanerette, former longtime resident of Franklin, and a resident of Baton Rouge for the past eight years. He passed away at his home on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, with his family at his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Louviere was a 1954 graduate of Franklin High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired Louisiana State Trooper.
He served as Chief of Police in Franklin from December 1991 to November 1997.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Deacon Gerald Bourg will officiate the services.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Antoinette Marie Rodriguez Louviere of Baton Rouge; two children, H. Gerald Louviere Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Lewisville, Texas and Jeanne L. Herry and her husband, David, of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren, Brian and Patrick Herry of Baton Rouge, Brennan, Taylor and Emma Louviere of Lewisville, Texas; three sisters, Laura Leleux of New Iberia, Rose Jolet of Lydia and Eva Bordelon of Cottonport; one brother, Robert Louviere of Orange Park, Florida; and his mother-in-law, Irma Rodriguez of Franklin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Whitney Louviere and Virginia Landry Louviere.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Retina Foundation of the Southwest, 9900 North Central Expressway, Suite 400, Dallas, Texas, 75231 or to Cancer Services of Baton Rouge, 550 Lobdell Ave., Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday at Ibert’s Mortuary, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with the rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume Thursday at Ibert’s from 9 a.m. until time of service.
