Folse is St. Mary AARP Father’s Day King
In recognition of Father’s Day, Ray Folse was crowned the St. Mary AARP Father’s Day King following a random drawing held during the St. Mary AARP held June 3 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City. He received a $25 check presented by AnnEtta Lombardo and Jane Aucoin.
Leading the meeting was Vice President Curtis Leonard. The opening prayer and pledge were done by Lombardo. The national anthem was sung by Gordon Smith.
Members were treated to a meal of hot dogs with chili sponsored by A&M Cooling and watermelon sponsored by Quality Diesel. The meal was prepared by Pat Fryer, Linda Darce and Mac McNemar.
President Paul Vella informed members of a large donation received from Whitney Bank.
Guest speakers were Kathleen Schexnaider with Regional Healthcare and Lennie Alleman with A&M Cooling.
Dance music was provided by Hubert Francis and Charlie Fryer. Bingo was held prior to the meeting.
Members were also treated to a performance by the AARP Players presenting a rendition of “Senior Olympics.” The play featured an all-male cast doing a simulated synchronized swimming skit. The play was directed by Lombardo.

—Members were reminded that the Chapter Meal is at 6 p.m. on June 24 at the Forrest Restaurant in Franklin. Last day to buy tickets for this meal is June 21.
—Members were notified that there is still availability for the Branson trip set for Nov. 24 to 28 and the AARP National Convention trip to Atlanta Oct. 3 to 7. Both trips require a $100 deposit. The Paragon Casino trip on June 23 still has a few spots left. Contact the AARP office at 985-384-2277 for more information.
—Next month’s meeting will be July 1. Members will feast on red beans, rice and sausage. Meal sponsor is Darnall, Sikes, Gardes & Frederick and will be prepared by the team of Floyd and Shirley Hymel, Carol and Hubert Francis, and Sterling and Pat Fryou. Teche Regional will give a presentation. A Community Concert Association video will also be presented. The annual Community Service Award will be presented to a local member.
