FFH to bring cancer center on site
Hospital board members approved an affiliation agreement that will set in motion the process to establish a satellite office of the Cancer Center of Acadiana at Franklin Foundation Hospital.
The agreement was presented after Hospital Service District I commissioners heard from Lafayette General Medical Center Chief Executive Officer David Callecod during their monthly meeting.
The partnership also paves the way for future clinical programs at Foundation, Callecod said.
“It’s about keeping care local,” Callecod said. He stressed that the goal is to provide services locally to patients who would have had to seek care outside of the area.
“This isn’t new management or an acquisition or transfer of funds,” Foundation CEO Parker Templeton said. “We remain independent organizations with the clinical affiliation agreement that will provide additional resources for our organization.”
The board approved the affiliation agreement unanimously upon motion of Eugene Foulcard and a second by Dr. Roland Degeyter.
In other business the board:
—Heard from Chief Financial Officer Ron Bailey that a $67,439 loss was realized in May. The year-to-date bottom line eight months through the fiscal year is almost $1.8 million. Bailey noted that the deficit included the $37,000 loss from the sale of the former hospital facility. Although the property was sold for $100,000, the loss was created by depreciation of its value as well as legal fees and other closing costs.
—Re-elected Allan Von Werder as chairman and Eugene Foulcard as vice chairman.
