EVELYN T. LEWIS

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013, 11 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church in Baldwin for Evelyn Joyce Thomas Lewis. Ms. Lewis was called to her eternal resting place on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, 11:19 a.m., at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette surrounded by her family.

Ms. Lewis was born to the late James Sr. and Evelyn Reason Thomas on November 3, 1929 in Adeline, La. She was baptized at an early age at Trinity United Methodist Church and has remained a faithful member there all of her life. She served numerous positions in the church. She was the church Treasurer, a Communion Steward, an integral part of the Vacation Bible School Department as well as an active member of the United Methodist Women for many years.

She is gone but will never be forgotten by those mourning, yet cherishing her precious, intimate memories one son, Byron K. Lewis of Baldwin; one daughter, Karen B. Lewis of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Quenika Lewis (Rick Arceneaux) of Lafayette, Murray Wagner, Star Lewis and Marcus Wagner, all of Baldwin; four great-grandchildren, Kellen and King Arceneaux of Lafayette and Travan and Travelle Barard of Baldwin; five step children that she raised as her own, Edna (Charles) Middleton of Franklin, Paxton (George) Keys, Rogers (Alice) Lewis, Judy Lewis, all of Houston, Texas, and Johnell (Annie Mae) Lewis of New Iberia. one son-in-law Hermann Wagner Jr. of Baldwin; one daughter-in-law, Darlene Arvie Lewis; seven sisters-in-law, Brenda Thomas, Idella Lewis of Baldwin, Carol Sydney of Franklin, Theresa (John) Wyatt of Grambling, La., Gloria Martin, Helen Miles of Kenner, and Pearl Lewis of Houston, Texas; one brother-in-law, Willie Lewis of Baldwin; one first cousin, Admiral Joseph Paul Reason of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves several close friends that she recognized as family: Anthony Johnson, Freddie Thomas, Rachael Thomas, Walter George, Sandra Pierce, Lillian Tillman, Willie Mae Bowser, Flora Mae Thomas, Violet Smith and Terry Paulfrey.

Ms. Evelyn Joyce Thomas Lewis will truly be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Sr. and Evelyn Thomas; her only younger brother, James Thomas Jr.; grandmother, Brenda Henderson; one stepson, Edwin Lewis; one nephew, Juan Thomas; and her husband Edward Lewis III.

Visitation will be Friday, January 18, 2013, from 5-9 p.m., with personal and musical tributes beginning at 7 p.m., and resume on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Trinity United Methodist Church in Baldwin.
