Early voting ends today -- 4,135 out of 34,127 parish voters have cast ballots for election
MORGAN CITY, La. — As early voting entered its final day today, the St. Mary Parish Registrar of Voters released early voting numbers as of Monday evening. With the exception of Saturday, daily early voting totals have increased each day in the parish.
A total of 4,135 voters have voted early or voted absentee in St. Mary Parish so far for the Nov. 6 election. A total of 2,226 voters have cast their ballots in Morgan City.
The daily total for Saturday early voting was 527 votes in the parish. A total of 262 voters cast those votes in Morgan City. The daily total for Monday’s early voting in the parish was at 865 votes. A total of 448 voters cast those votes in Morgan City.
The total parish breakdown by party and race is the following. A total of 2,106 registered Democrats have voted, and 1,427 Republicans have voted. Voters registered with other have cast 602 votes.
White voters have cast 2,907 votes, and black voters have cast 1,143 votes. Voters of other races have cast 602 votes.
Male voters have cast 1,919 votes and female voters have cast 2,216 votes.
St. Mary Parish residents have through 6 p.m. today to vote early. They can vote at either 301 Third St. in Morgan City or at 500 Main St., Room 301, in Franklin.
Mail-in voting will continue through Nov. 5, the day before the general election. All mail-in votes must be received by 4:30 p.m. on that day. Military personnel, U.S. citizens living outside the country and hospitalized patients have until the day of the election on Nov. 6 by 8 p.m. to mail in their ballots.
There are 34,127 voters registered for the Nov. 6 election in St. Mary Parish with 8,044 voters registered in Morgan City, according to numbers from the St. Mary Parish Registrar of Voters Office.
The number of registered voters in St. Mary Parish increased by 461 voters compared to the number in the fall of 2008. Voter registration is up 143 voters in Morgan City from 2008.
In St. Mary Parish, a total of 21,254 white voters are on the voter rolls, which is down seven voters from 2008. Black voter enrollment is at 11,411; which went up 305 voters since 2008. Enrollment for other races is at 1,462 voters, up 163 voters.
In Morgan City, 5,766 white voters registered by the Oct. 9 deadline, which is up four voters since 2008. Black voter numbers came in at 1,886 having increased by 57 voters. Other races registered totaled 392, an increase of 82 voters.
The party breakdown in St. Mary Parish is 17,256 Democrats; 8,161 Republicans; and 8,710 voters registered with other parties. Democratic voters are down by 1,549. Republican voters are up by 1,061; and other-party voters increased by 949.
The party breakdown in Morgan City is 3,741 Democrats; 2,169 Republicans; and 2,134 registered with other parties. Democratic registered voters decreased by 394. Republican voters increased by 290, and other-party voters increased by 213.
