Dredging bid awarded
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, an Illinois company, to perform this year’s annual dredging work in the Atchafalaya Bar Channel in St. Mary Parish.
The contract is for $10.7 million, and work is expected to be completed by Aug. 31.
Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, which was one of two bidders on the contract, has done the annual dredge work in the parish before, as recently as the mid-2000s.
The project awarded to Great Lakes is not related to the Port of Morgan City’s and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ efforts to determine the best and most efficient method to dredge in the area and remove fluff, the pudding-consistency substance that clogs area waterways.
