Dirt work bid awarded on new medical office

A low bid contract was awarded Thursday to Acadiane Renovations, Ltd. of Franklin on the earthwork for the new medical office building at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

Hospital Service District 1 Board of Commissioners accepted the $78,885 bid from ARL that was one of six.

Ty Dartez of Architects’ Design Studio, Lafayette, told the board that the project would begin on April 5 and take 45 days.

The $2.1 million facility will provide clinical space for as many as five physicians as well as the hospital’s wound care clinic.

Drs. Donna Tesi, general surgery; Steven McPherson, internal medicine; and Rebecca Accardo, OB/GYN will move their practices to the building.

There also will be space for a second general surgeon now being recruited by the hospital.

A fourth of the building will be reserved for future utilization, Templeton said.

The construction period on the 13,000-square foot building is estimated at one year.

In other business Thursday the board:

—Received a clean audit report on the 2010-2011 fiscal year from Chris Kohlenberg of the Langlinais, Broussard and Kohlenberg accounting firm.

—Learned from Chief Financial Officer Ron Bailey that a $125,642 loss was realized in February bringing the year-to-date net profit through the fifth month to $519,546.

—Heard from Dr. Roland Degeyter, chairman of the Quality Committee, that the infection rate at the hospital is less than 1 percent at 0.4 percent.

—Heard from Chief Executive Officer Parker Templeton that Cook, Moore and Associates have been retained to update the appraisal on the former hospital building.

—Heard from Templeton that Bayou Health, a new way for most Medicaid and LaCHIP recipients to receive health care services, will be in effect on April 1. The five health plans that are available include Amerigroup, Community Health Solutions, LaCare, Louisiana Healthcare Connections and United Health Care Community Plan.
