Deadline nears to enter Children's Day drawing
The deadline to register for the 2011 Children’s Day King and Queen drawing is fast approaching.
Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival and Fair Association is accepting application until noon on Aug. 12.
The new king and queen will be selected in a public drawing on Aug. 20 at 3 p.m. at American Legion Post 96 located at the corner of Everett Street and La. 182 in Morgan City.
This year the king and queen will be crowned at a Coronation Party on Aug. 21, also at Post 96.
The event is open to all boys and girls ages 6 to 12 from the Tri-City area. Boys and girls ages 9-12 will be in the drawing for king and queen and they must be present to win. All other entrants will become members of the royal court.
Those chosen as royalty must have a positive attitude and participate in all festival activities. The king and queen are representatives of the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival and the City of Morgan City.
They will reign over Labor Day weekend Children’s Day activities such as the field events slated Sept. 3 at 9 a.m. in Lawrence Park in Morgan City. They will also lead the Children’s Street Parade later that same morning in the downtown area.
Additionally, Children’s Day royalty will be guests of the festival at the adult coronation pageant and festival events.
Children not selected as king and queen will become members of the royal court.
A Royal Fun Fest honoring the 2010 Children’s Day King and Queen, Nicholas Aleksines and Dianne Ward, will take place Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. at Post 96.
Sponsoring the event is the family of Marion Bergeron and the late Oliver Bergeron. Post 96 and Ideal Rentals are supporters of the event.
Registration blanks can be found periodically in The Daily Review or may be obtained from the festival office at 715 Second St. in Morgan City.
Parents are asked to complete the registration form and mail it, along with $1 registration fee, to P.O. Box 103, Morgan City, Louisiana 70381 or drop it off at the festival office at 715 Second St., Morgan City.
