D'backs, Jester's Courts win
BERWICK — The Diamondbacks (Terrebonne) and Jester’s Court (Central Lafourche) both picked up victories on the first day of the Swampland League postseason tournament at Berwick High School.
The Diamondbacks, the No. 3 seed, knocked off sixth seed Reeco Rental (Thibodaux), 3-2, in the first game.
In the second contest, No. 4 seed Jester’s Court defeated No. 5 seed Trinity Tools
(Covenant Christian), 5-3.
The Diamondbacks (10-3) will now play No. 2 seed Taco Bell (9-3), who received a first-round bye, today at 5 p.m., while Jester’s Court (9-5) will face top seed Synergy Bank (11-1), who also received a first-round bye, today at 7 p.m.
The two semifinal winners will meet Wednesday in the Swampland League championship game at 5 p.m.
In the Diamondbacks’ win, the squad produced the winning run on a run-scoring single by Jalen Williams in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored Quinn Malbrough.
Malbrough earned the win in relief while Wesley Lassere suffered the loss, also in relief.
The Diamondbacks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, while Reeco Rental countered with two runs in the top of the sixth for a 2-1 advantage.
Reeco Rental finished the Swampland season with a 7-6 mark.
In the nightcap, Jester’s Court never trailed as it held as much as a 5-0 lead after five innings of play.
While Trinity Tools scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, it could get no closer.
Trinity also didn’t manage a hit in the contest. Both Owen Hebert, who earned the win, and Seth Dufrene, who pitched in relief, combined for the no-no.
Conner Bates was tagged with the loss for Trinity Tools, who finished the Swampland
season with a 7-5 mark.
