Courtney's performance highlights MCHS win

MORGAN CITY — Austin Courtney’s near 300-game highlighted the Morgan City boys’ bowling team 26-1 victory against Central Catholic in prep bowling action Wednesday.

Courtney missed scoring a 300 by one pin in the second of three games but won the point in the contest.

Courtney's feat was the first honor score awarded in Morgan City's district in high school bowling, which consists of Morgan City, Central Catholic and Berwick. He achieved the U.S. Bowling Congress-recognized honor score by hitting 11 straight strikes and nine of 10 pins on his last bowl.

Besides his second game, he also bowled a 189 in the first game and a 265 in the second contest, scoring points in those games as well.

Other Morgan City bowlers scoring points included: Ryan Veillion (212, 182, 268), Chandler Delaune (200, 191), Lang Bui (158, 176, 223), Jonathan LaCombe (199, 173, 192), Taylor Brocato (184, 188) and Leo Gros (78, 113).

Josh Abney scored Central Catholic’s point in the second game as he beat Morgan City’s Bui by bowling a 206. Bui had a 176.

Carmody also bowled a 174 in game two and a 168 in game three, while Abney bowled a 183 in the final game.

In girls’ action Wednesday, Central Catholic defeated Morgan City, 16-11.

Alex Aucoin (148, 155), Anny Mary Dupuis (143, 105, 159), Katrina Robertson (108, 146) and Maya Bochas (102, 102) all scored points for Central Catholic.

Scoring points for Morgan City were Lauren Aucoin (162), Kristi Wright (128, 146, 161), Caroline Owens (125, 115), Rylee Sartwell (122), Alyssa Rich (113) and Laura Nolazco (99).

Also Wednesday at Creole Lanes in Houma, Berwick’s boys and girls both fell to H.L. Bourgeois.

The boys lost 17-10, while the girls fell 19-8.

In the boys’ contest, Berwick bowlers scoring points were Devon Quick (154, 233, 203), Chase Landry (184), Paul Reed (158, 180), Quentin Kelly (124) and Aaron Barrilleaux (123).

Carl Reed also bowled a 183 in game three.

In the girls’ contest, Elle Arcemont scored points with games of 167 and 177. Other top Berwick bowlers scoring points included Mikayla Allen (142, 116), Kourtney Kennedy (139), Katie Chandler (126), McKenzee Reed (93) and Jenah Richard (89).

In Monday’s action at Charlie’s Lanes, Morgan City and Berwick split matches as Morgan City won the boys’ contest 25-2 and the Berwick girls’ defeated Morgan City, 22-5.

In the boys’ win, Delaune scored points for Morgan City with games of 206, 259 and 222. Other Morgan City bowlers scoring points included Brocato (211, 257), Bui (189, 211, 213), Courtney (172, 234, 193), Veillion (193, 195), LaCombe (170, 162) and Gros (106).

For Berwick, Reed (199) and Kelly (132) scored points.

Other top performances were turned in by Quick, who bowled a 198 in game one and a 243 in game two; Carl Reed, a 215 in game two; Chance Fraley, a 188 in game one and a 183 in game two; and Paul Reed, a 194 in game one and a 199 in game two.

In girls’ action, Berwick bowlers scoring points were Arcemont (153, 202), Lauren Delco (140, 188), Allen (143, 166, 144), Richard (124, 154), Chandler (141), Kennedy (129), Harley George (127) and Kera Domangue (123).

For Morgan City, Sartwell (117, 142), Rich (142), Wright (140), and Aucoin (122) all scored points.

Also Monday, the Central Catholic girls defeated South Lafourche, 17-10, at Creole Lanes in Houma.

Scoring for Central Catholic were Jada Pennison (128), Aucoin (124), Christian Carbins (112), Robertson (110), Bochas (74, 75, 112), Dupuis (78) and Alex Abney (46, 74).

Also Monday, the Central Catholic boys fell to South Lafourche, 21-6.

Scoring points for Central Catholic included Kyle Autin (150), Abney (131), Carmody (112), Liam McCloy (107, 106) and Luis Bochas (91).
