Counterfeit check suspect sought

AMELIA, La. -- The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s help in identifying a suspect who counterfeited a check at a convenience store in Amelia, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in news release.

On July 25, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from a convenience store in Amelia regarding a counterfeit check.

Detectives discovered that a payroll check was counterfeited and successfully cashed as a legitimate document, Hebert stated. The suspect who cashed the fake check was captured on surveillance video. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is requested the public’s assistance in identifying the Hispanic male suspect, Hebert stated.

The suspect was last seen wearing a Hollister brand T-shirt driving a newer model, dark colored minivan. At the time of the incident, the suspect appeared to have a white female passenger in the vehicle with him, Hebert stated.
