Woman arrested in rape case
Christa N. Yarbrough
A 27-year-old Amelia woman was jailed Monday after she was found to have knowledge of an aggravated rape after she originally denied knowing about it, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
Christa N. Yarbrough, 27, of the 3600 block of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, was arrested at 9:36 a.m. Monday on a warrant for obstruction of justice.
A deputy located Yarbrough at her residence on the warrant. The warrant stems from an April 16 investigation into the aggravated rape of a 16-year-old girl.
Atlas J. White, 22, of the 1300 block of Oil Tank Alley in Morgan City, was arrested April 24 in connection with the incident and was charged with aggravated rape and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.
On April 16, the sheriff’s office received information from a hospital regarding a possible rape victim who was being treated in the emergency room. Criminal investigation detectives determined that the 16-year-old female victim was beaten and raped the previous night at a residence in Amelia, Hebert said. Detectives identified White, a person the victim knew, as the suspect in the crime, the sheriff said. White is also accused of entering the home without permission.
Yarbrough claimed to know nothing of the crime, Hebert said. Detectives later discovered several communications indicating that Yarbrough purposefully denied having any knowledge of the crime, the sheriff said. She was jailed. Yarbrough was later released on recognizance bail.
