Morgan City man jailed for assaulting deputy in court
A Morgan City man is accused of assaulting a St. Mary Parish sheriff’s deputy Wednesday after the man became unruly in 16th Judicial District Court, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Alan Granger, 24, of the 300 block of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday for assault on a police officer and battery on an officer. Deputies were in 16th Judicial District Court when Granger disobeyed deputies’ commands to sit down in court and then became unruly by yelling and committing a battery on a deputy when Granger was being removed from the courtroom, Hebert said. Granger was jailed with no bail set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 24 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Quincy Toups, 33, of the 1300 block of First Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:58 a.m. Wednesday for attempted simple burglary and criminal trespass related to a business in the Centerville area. He was jailed with no bail set.
—Michael Everitt Jr., 37, of the 500 block of Clark Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:19 a.m. Wednesday on warrants for failure to appear in court for revocation and a Berwick Police Department warrant for three counts of child desertion. He was jailed with no bail set.
—Caitlyn Brooks, 19, of the 3200 block of Chitimacha Trail in Charenton, was arrested at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace. Deputies were dispatched to a business in the Bayou Vista area in reference to subject creating a disturbance inside. Brooks was jailed and released on a summons to appear in court.
—Thomas Thompson, 40, of the 2800 block of First Street in Berwick, was arrested at 6:56 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear for revocation. He was jailed with bail set at $11,560.01.
—Destry Webber, 48, of the 200 block of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:38 p.m. Wednesday for criminal abandonment. Deputies were dispatched to a business on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista in reference to a found lost child. Deputies learned that the child had been left for some time and had to question the child to find the parents. Deputies had to track down the parents of the child and located a child’s relative to leave the child with.
Deputies learned that Webber had left the child at the business. Webber, the child’s father, was jailed with bail set at $7,500.
—Richard Giroir Jr., 54, of the 5800 block of North Bayou in Gibson, was arrested at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday for theft of goods. Deputies were dispatched to a business on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista for shoplifting.
Deputies learned that Richard had taken several items from the store without paying, resulting in his arrest. He was jailed with bail set at $2,000.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Keveshia Johnson, 17, of Morgan City, was arrested at 12:14 a.m. today for aggravated second degree battery.
—Sheila Johnson, 40, of Morgan City, was arrested at 12:14 a.m. today for disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to Mallard Street in Morgan City in regard to a disturbance involving a knife. Officers located a female victim who had a large laceration on her face. Officers found that Sheila Johnson was involved in a disturbance with the victim. Sheila Johnson, who officers determined was intoxicated, returned to her residence where she and Keveshia Johnson confronted the victim again. Keveshia Johnson became involved in a fight with the victim, produced a knife and cut the victim in the face. Keveshia Johnson and Sheila Johnson were jailed. The victim was taken to Teche Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released
—Malichi Spalding, 19, of Patterson, was arrested at 5:52 p.m. Wednesday for theft of goods (value $6.49).
Police were dispatched to a hardware store in regard to a theft. Officers reviewed video footage and Spalding was identified, Banks said. Spalding was located and questioned in regard to the theft at which time he admitted to stealing a pack of batteries valued at $6.49, Banks said. Spalding was jailed.
—Steven Riddle, 27, of Berwick, was arrested at 9:49 p.m. Wednesday for possession of marijuana.
While on patrol, officers came into contact with Riddle on Veteran’s Boulevard. Officers searched Riddle and found a clear cellophane baggie that contained a green vegetable matter believed to be marijuana. Riddle was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
