Bail has been set at $175,000 for a 40-year-old man arrested in connection with an October 2013 shooting near Maitland Elementary School in Morgan City, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Barron F. Kenner, 40, of First Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:12 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for attempted second degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone.
Kenner was booked into the Morgan City Jail on outstanding warrants for a shooting which occurred in the area of Maitland Elementary School on Oct. 21, 2013. Kenner was alleged to have been involved in the shooting, which resulted in two subjects being wounded, Banks said. Two other suspects in the case, Donald Brown and Eric Charles, had already been arrested and charged in the case.
Kenner had been featured in the Daily Review’s Most Wanted edition. Morgan City police detectives traveled to Terrebonne Parish with information regarding Kenner’s whereabouts. Kenner was located in the Houma area and transported to the Morgan City Police Department.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrest:
—Hailey E. Verdin, 24, of Houma, was arrested at 7:37 p.m. Wednesday for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, stop sign violation and child passenger restraint violation.
An officer observed a vehicle fail to negotiate a stop sign in the area of Myrtle Street and Railroad Avenue. The vehicle contained children that were not properly restrained. The driver of the vehicle, Verdin, was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. She was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 44 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
A Morgan City man was arrested Wednesday on a warrant in connection with an August 2013 incident where he exposed himself at a casino, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Ryan Dixon, 25, of the 200 block of Seventh Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:19 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for obscenity. Dixon turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on a parole violation sanction. During booking, it was learned that Dixon held an active warrant for his arrest. The warrant stems from an investigation into a complaint of a person exposing himself at a casino in August 2013. The deputy learned that Dixon, who was an employee at the casino at the time, exposed himself in the presence of female employees. No bail is set.
—Robert Parker Jr., 33, of the 1700 block of Flory Street in Jeanerette, was arrested at 4:27 p.m. Wednesday for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, obstruction of justice, and on a warrant for parole violation. While travelling on U.S. 90 in the Berwick area, narcotics detectives observed a vehicle with a shattered windshield. Detectives also observed Parker who was seated in the rear of the vehicle. Detectives knew that Parker held an active warrant and conducted a traffic stop. When detectives made contact with Parker, he was seen reaching around in the vehicle near him. A detective advised Parker to stop several times.
However, Parker continued searching the rear compartment of the vehicle and in his pockets, Hebert said. A detective then saw Parker pull out a large bag of cocaine and throw the bag into the front seat area of the vehicle. Parker was taken into custody. The bag of cocaine was recovered. Detectives received consent to search the vehicle and located an additional bag containing crack cocaine. Narcotics detectives estimate the total street value of the drugs to be $1,800. Parker was jailed with no bail set.
—Gilbert Howard, 44, of the 800 block of Youngs Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:24 a.m. today for possession of legend drug without a prescription and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal damage to property. A deputy responded to a request to remove a person from a business on La. 182 in Amelia. The deputy made contact with the person, identified as Howard. The deputy received consent to search Howard’s vehicle and located prescription pills that were not prescribed to Howard. He was jailed with no bail set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Alyssa Ashmore, 24, of the 1100 block of Chester Bowles Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:29 p.m. Wednesday for theft and unauthorized use of a movable. Ashmore was jailed on $5,000 bail.
—Edward R. Goodale, 39, of the 500 block of Leo Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 1:14 a.m. today for simple battery involving domestic abuse. No bail has been set yet.
