A 25-year-old Morgan City man was jailed Monday in connection with a shooting that took place Friday during which bullets struck a vehicle and an abandoned residence in Morgan City, Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Patrick LeBlanc, 25, of Morgan City, was arrested at 5:17 p.m. Monday on a warrant for illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentalities, a warrant for aggravated criminal damage to property, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of synthetic marijuana, illegal carrying of a weapon during a violent crime or in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
On Friday, police were dispatched to the 100 block of Oak Street in regard to shots being fired. Officers located several spent shell casings in the road. Officers also found a vehicle and a residence that had been hit with bullets, Banks said. LeBlanc was given as a possible suspect, the chief said.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the residence of LeBlanc. Officers located drug paraphernalia along with synthetic marijuana and firearms, Banks said. LeBlanc was questioned in regard to the shooting and jailed with no bail set yet.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Jaylin Francois, 17, of Morgan City, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Monday for disturbing the peace.
Police were dispatched to the 1900 block of Federal Avenue in regard to a disturbance. Officers spoke to the complainant and they advised that while conducting a court appointed program, Francois became unruly and had to be removed. Officers located Francois. He was jailed.
—Sheila Hodge, 51, of Morgan City, was arrested at 5:38 p.m. Monday for resisting an officer and driving under suspension.
Police were called to investigate a traffic crash that had occurred in a private parking lot. Officers spoke to the driver, Hodge, who initially attempted to hide her identity by supplying a fictitious name, Banks said. Hodge was jailed.
—Justin Price, 26, of Morgan City, was arrested at 8:45 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear for arraignment for failing to get a dog or cat vaccinated.
Price turned himself in to the police department after learning of the warrant for his arrest. Price was jailed after posting cash bail.
—Jerald Francois, 23, of Morgan City, was arrested at 1:25 a.m. today on a warrant for failure to appear to pay a fine and failure to appear to pay contempt charges.
While on patrol, police came into contact with Francois at the intersection of Federal Avenue and Everett Street
Upon checking, it was found that Francois was a wanted person through this department. Francois was jailed.
—Thomas Remedies, 21, of Morgan City, was arrested at 3:34 a.m. today for appearing intoxicated in public.
Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of Federal Avenue in regard to a disturbance. Officers spoke to Remedies and noticed that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Remedies was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 54 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Kaleb R. Gros, 17, of the 100 block of Sun Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:45 p.m. Monday on a warrant for illegal possession of a stolen firearm. Gros was located at the Berwick Police Department on the warrant.
The warrant stems from an investigation into a firearm reported stolen from the Bayou Vista area. The deputy assigned to the case learned that Gros was in possession of the handgun. Gros was jailed with no bail set. The stolen firearm was returned to the owner, Hebert said.
—Yansi Martinez-Gonzalez, 33, of the 500 block of Lucy Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:49 a.m. Monday for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a report of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy learned from store personnel that Martinez-Gonzalez was seen concealing items in her purse before attempting to leave the store without paying for the goods. The deputy released Martinez-Gonzalez on a summons to appear in court on Sept. 3.
—Emilie Businelle, 21, of the 600 block of Superior Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:44 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of Schedule I and possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy conducted a courtesy check of a business in Amelia and made contact with Businelle. The deputy knew that Businelle held an active warrant for arrest. Businelle was jailed with bail set at $2,500.
—Jeffrey McCracken, 28, of the 1700 block of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 9:18 p.m. Monday for possession of crack cocaine. Narcotics division detectives patrolling the area of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City made contact with a man who was riding a bike in the middle of the roadway. The person was identified as McCracken. While speaking with McCracken, detectives received consent to search him, the sheriff said. During the search, detectives located rocks of crack cocaine, Hebert said. McCracken was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Orion McCranie, 34, of Wilson Street in Berwick, was arrested at 9:59 p.m. Monday for disturbing the peace by alarming the public second offense. McCranie was released on $160 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
