Berwick teen arrested in armed robbery of 3 people

A Berwick teenager was arrested Tuesday in connection with a May 8 incident where he robbed three people at gunpoint at a Berwick residence, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.
—Damarcus D. McNeal, 17, of Cardinal Street in Berwick, was arrested at 5 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for armed robbery with use of a firearm.
McNeal had been arrested at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday by St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. A deputy received a report of a person entering a residence that was supposed to be vacant on Darlene Street in Patterson, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a release.
The armed robbery warrant stems from a Berwick police investigation that began May 8 where McNeal is accused of using the firearm to steal money and other items from three people at a River Road residence, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.
McNeal is alleged to have snatched the firearm from one of the victims and used it in the robbery, Richard said. McNeal’s bail is set at $300,000.
The deputy made contact with McNeal who was inside the residence. The deputy learned from the property owner that McNeal had entered into the residence without permission. McNeal was jailed with no bail set.
