$1.2M theft charged

Karen Duhon

A 59-year-old Morgan City woman surrendered to police Tuesday on warrants for stealing more than $1.2 million from her employer over a seven-year period, which marks the second arrest in the investigation, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
Karen D. Duhon, 59, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, turned herself in to the Morgan City Police Department for eight counts of felony theft totaling $1.233 million. She was jailed and released after posting $150,000 bail.
On March 25, detectives began an investigation into the theft of funds from Capital Management Consultants Inc. of Morgan City. During the investigation, police uncovered what indicated a systematic theft of funds from the company over the span of several years. Several search warrants were executed by investigators.
During the subsequent investigation, police uncovered evidence that implicated two employees of the company, Duhon and Donna Sue Peveto as being responsible for the thefts, Banks said. Peveto was arrested Friday on a warrant for seven counts of felony theft totaling $633,700. She was also released after posting $150,000 bail.
In the affidavits, Duhon is accused of committing the theft of $1.233 million by fraudulent means between 2007 and 2014, Banks said. Peveto is accused of stealing $633,700 during that same time period, Banks said.
The investigation is ongoing with additional arrests possible pending the completion of that investigation, the chief said.
