The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office two-week blanket drive to benefit the St. Mary Council on Aging collected 206 new blankets.

Amelia store robbed at gunpoint (updated)

At 3:34 pm Sunday, December 21, 2014, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Family Dollar store located on Highway 182 Frontage Road in Amelia. The perpetrator(s) left the area with approximately $150 in cash. The lone gunman exited the store and ran to a vehicle parked in a nearby RV park. Attached are 3 pictures gathered from video surveillance of this vehicle. Anyone who may recognize the vehicle or have information on the crime may contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-828-1960 or 985-384-1622. Callers may remain anonymous. Police are searching for the person or persons who robbed the Amelia Family Dollar at gunpoint Sunday afternoon.
