Tulane football works in the heat at practice
Tulane’s football team endured the early August heat for the first time during the 2014 fall camp Wednesday morning when it held a 20-period practice at Newman High School.
“It wasn’t as bad as I expected,” Tulane head coach Curtis Johnson said in a news release. “I thought there would be a lot more casualties. We lost some guys at the last 30 minutes of practice, but other than that, I thought it was pretty good. We practiced well.”
The Green Wave donned shells (shoulders pads and helmets) for the first time this fall as well. The squad will go in full pads for the first time Friday.
The Green Wave will return to the Saints Facility for a closed practice today in addition to the annual Media Day festivities at the Wilson Center.
Tulane will cap week one with its first two-a-day Saturday. The first session will be an open scrimmage at 8:30 a.m. at Tad Gormley Stadium before concluding the day with a closed session at the Saints Facility at 3:30 p.m. Saturday’s scrimmage is open the public, and admission is free.
Tulane will kick off the 2014 season Aug. 28, when the Green Wave travels to Oklahoma to take on fellow American newcomer Tulsa at 7 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network.
The Green Wave will open the home portion of the schedule Sept. 6, against Georgia Tech at 3 p.m. in the new, on-campus Yulman Stadium in front of a national audience on ESPNews.
