Champagne, Pontiff pitch HMS Lady Tigers by Vermilion Catholic

Hanson Memorial pitchers Emily Champagne and Evelyn Pontiff teamed up on a three-hitter, sending the HMS Lady Tigers to a 4-0 victory over the Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles Monday at the HMS Softball Field.

Champagne earned the mound victory after working the final two frames. Champagne fired two scoreless innings, yielding one hit with two strikeouts and one walk.

Pontiff started and hurled five scoreless innings, surrendering only two hits with one free pass.

Hanson’s hitters came to life in the bottom half of the sixth frame when the Lady Tigers plated all four runs.

Leading hitters for HMS were: Kim Sonnier, 2 for 3, 2 RBI, run; Malloy Chaisson, 1 for 3, 2 RBI; Brittany Broussard, 1 for 3, run; Morgan Baudoin, 1 for 3, run; Emily Sonnier, 1 for 3 and Katie Sonnier, 1 for 2, run.

Hanson Memorial (15-3, 4-1) will play host to Central Catholic of Morgan City today at 5 p.m.
