Central Catholic tennis nets state qualifiers
Central Catholic qualified a girls’ doubles team as well as a boys’ doubles team and one boys singles player to participate in the Division V State Tournament Monday and Tuesday at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
The Lade Eagles’ Emma Thomas and Kate Patterson advanced to the finals of regional play Tuesday where they fell to Tsana Demmas and Adele Perino, 6-4, 6-3.
On the boys’ side, Central Catholic’s Connor Hebert and Gage Theriot fell to Chase Carpenter and Christian Wolf, 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.
Theriot and Hebert, who had a bye, defeated Carter Higbee and Hunter Sellen of Archbishop Hannan, 6-3, 6-4 on Monday to advance to the semifinals.
In singles’ action, Zachary Osburn also qualified for the Eagles.
Thomas-Patterson advanced to the finals after defeating Country Day’s Victoria Waguespack and Massey Demmas, 6-4, 6-2.
On Monday, the Lady Eagles’ duo defeated Tia Schlessinger and Tiffany Tauassdi of St. Martins, 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals.
In regional action Monday, Osburn defeated Ethan Roberts of St. Martins, 6-0, 6-0 before falling to Cook Carpenter of Country Day, 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals.
In doubles’ action, Central Catholic’s Sal Grizzaffi and Quinlan Duffy defeated Bradley Burns and Adrian LaPeyronnie of Archbishop Hannan, 6-2, 6-3, before falling to Country Day’s Morgan Farrel and Walker Bright, 6-0, 6-0.
Central Catholic’s Noah Osburn and Brandon Anslum also fell to Charlie Livedois and Andre Nguyen of Country Day, 6-0, 6-0.
In girls’ singles’ action, Central Catholic’s Jaclyn Garber fell to Chandler Nguyen of Country Day, 6-4, 6-2 while Allie Landry fell to No. 1 seed Kennan Johnson of Ascension Christian, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Lily Lupin and Shelby White of Country Day defeated the Lady Eagles’ Jessica Landry and Brooke Picou, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, while Central Catholic’s Lindsee Case and Lynze Bell fell to Massey Demmas and Victoria Waguespack of Country Day, 6-1, 6-0.
