Central Catholic makes easy work of VCHS
By: Staff Reports
Central Catholic’s basketball teams won by nearly identical scores against district rival Vermilion Catholic.
The Lady Eagles won 81-47 and the boys won in the second game, 81-48.
Meo Knight had a game-high 31 in the win with numerous blocks in the paint and a tenacious effort on defense that led to several easy points on fast breaks.
CCHS was ahead by just three points after the first quarter, but the full court press and overall team speed of the Lady Eagles was too much for VCHS to handle.
The Lady Eagles were ranked No. 6 heading into the game and Vermilion ranked No. 3.
That isn’t the case after Friday’s win. CCHS is No. 2 in this week’s Louisiana Sports Writers Association poll and VCHS dropped to No. 7.
The Lady Eagles will face Class 4A Vandebilt Catholic on Tuesday. The Lady Terriers are No. 5 in Class 4A poll.
After the girls’ win, the boys scored the exact same 81 points to beat VCHS, 81-48.
Lloyd Grogan had a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Dontrell Brown had 28 points, Tyler Hoffpauir had 15 points, and Josh Singleton had 14 points.
The No. 1 ranked Eagles will head to Houma on Tuesday to face Vandebilt Catholic, which is receiving votes in the LSWA Class 4A poll.
