Centerville Bulldogs post history-making victory at UL
LAFAYETTE — In a history-making contest, the Centerville Bulldogs topped the Grand Isle Trojans 7-4 at the University of Louisiana’s Moore Field Monday in high school baseball action.
Centerville was the host team on the field which offers the amenities of a college landmark where dreams are made marking the chance of a lifetime opportunity.
Centerville Coach Barry Price said the chance to play at UL was an awesome experience.
“It was an awesome experience,” he said. “It was a once in a lifetime experience. We played well as the kids stepped up while also getting the win really helped.”
Cameron Pogue fired a five-hitter over seven complete innings, hurling the Centerville Bulldogs to the victory.
Pogue claimed the mound victory, allowing one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks over seven complete frames.
Grand Isle secured a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning before the Centerville Bulldogs struck back with three runs in the bottom half of the second frame, building a 3-1 advantage. Grand Isle drew within one run of Centerville at 3-2 in the top half of the fourth frame. In the bottom of the fourth, Centerville plated two more runs for a 5-2 cushion. Centerville cruised to the 7-4 win with two insurance runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
Leading hitters for the Centerville Bulldogs were: Peyton Landry, 3 for 4, inside-the-park homer, 3 RBI; Devin Pontiff, 2 for 4, double; Chance Landry, 2 for 4, double; Zacchaeus Jackson, 1 for 2, RBI; Rodrick Taylor, 1 for 2 and Tyler Theriot, 1 for 4.
Centerville (3-6) will play host to Assembly Christian on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
