CCHS wins final 2 at tourney
Central Catholic finished 2-1 at its inaugural Lady Eagle Classic.
After falling to Westgate, the Lady Eagles bounced back with a 54-33 victory against Terrebonne Friday and a 62-41 victory against Ellender Saturday.
In Saturday’s win, Central Catholic outscored Ellender in every quarter, reaching double figures in each.
After jumping out to a 14-8 lead after a period of play, the Lady Eagles extended their advantage to 29-19 at the half.
While they narrowly outscored Ellender 12-11 in the third quarter for a 41-30 lead after three, the Lady Eagles held a 21-11 fourth-quarter scoring advantage for the final.
Randi Brown had a monster game with 26 points and 20 rebounds as well as six assists, four steals and a block. Meo Knight also recorded a double-double with a team-high 27 points, while also contributing 14 rebounds, an assist, three steals and a block.
Another top Central Catholic scorer was Megan Landry, who put in seven points and also recorded six rebounds, one block and two steals in the victory.
In Friday’s contest, Central Catholic outscored Terrebonne in every quarter.
Knight and Brown both recorded double-doubles in the victory. Knight had 20 points and 12 rebounds as well as two blocks, four steals and four assists, while Brown had 12 points and 14 rebounds as well as one block, two steals and two assists.
Other top Central Catholic contributors included Abbie Bergeron, nine points, one steal and a rebound; Landry, eight points, one block, four steals and two rebounds; and Caroline Byrne, three points, one steal, one assist and one rebound.
In other tournament action Saturday, Terrebonne edged Westgate, 44-42, while on Friday, Ellender defeated Terrebonne, 47-28, and Ellender defeated Westgate, 56-39.
Central Catholic (10-4) will return to action today when it hosts Ascension Catholic in a 6 p.m. varsity contest.
Morgan City drops two
Morgan City dropped two games in the Teurlings Catholic Tournament as the squad fell to Port Barre, 51-46, Friday and to Teurlings, 72-29, on Saturday.
No individual statistics were available.
Morgan City (6-12) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Teurlings Catholic in a 5 p.m. contest.
Patterson struggled as it dropped a 59-12 non-district contest to North Vermilion on the road Friday.
North Vermilion raced out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter and held Patterson scoreless in the second quarter, while putting up 16 points.
The Lumberjills scored six of their eight second-half points in the fourth quarter.
Jazmin Evans led Patterson with seven points.
Patterson will return to action Thursday when it hosts Berwick. Junior varsity girls’ action will begin at 5 p.m., followed by varsity girls action at 6 p.m.
