CCHS upsets Notre Dame
CROWLEY — Central Catholic knocked off a second consecutive highly regarded opponent on its brutal schedule as it took down Division IV’s defending state champion, Notre Dame of Crowley, 3-2 Wednesday on the road.
After falling 19-25 and 23-25 in games 1 and two, the Lady Eagles rallied with three consecutive victories, 25-18, 25-16 and 15-10 for the victory.
The Lady Eagles were led by double-doubles by Brie Hill and Celine Flores as well as the hitting of Meo Knight and setting of Caroline Byrne.
Hill recorded 13 kills and 11 solo blocks, while Flores had 13 kills, an ace, 12 digs and a solo block.
Knight recorded 21 kills, five digs and a solo block, while Byrne dished out an impressive 56 assists and also had a kill and four digs.
Other CCHS contributors included Gee Garrett, 10 kills and two solo blocks; Abbie Bergeron, two assists and 19 digs; and Marie Templet, seven digs.
Wednesday’s win was the second consecutive for the Lady Eagles (11-7) against a highly regarded opponent. On Sept. 20, CCHS defeated Breaux Bridge, the top ranked team according to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Power Rankings.
The Lady Eagles will return to action Tuesday when they host Belle Chasse. Junior varsity play will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by varsity action.
Adams records triple-double in MCHS win
MORGAN CITY — To say Katelyn Adams did a little bit of everything for the Lady Tigers Tuesday.
If there’s any doubt, it’s evident by the triple-double she turned in during her squad’s 3-2 (25-18, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 16-14) win at home against South Terrebonne in a Division II, District 6 matchup.
Adams recorded 12 kills, 33 assists and 13 digs as well as an ace and two blocks.
She was not alone in dominating performances as two other Lady Tigers, Jaiveianna Jones and Kloé Liner, each recorded double-doubles.
Jones had 15 kills and 13 digs along with three blocks, four assists and an ace, while Liner turned in a stat line of 11 kills and 14 digs as well as two assists.
Other contributors for MCHS included: Brandi Ingram, an ace and kill apiece, three assists and 21 digs; Savannah Loupe, four aces and 22 digs; Marilynn Bailey, three aces and kills apiece, a block assist and eight digs; Elizabeth Esteban, two aces and assists apiece and seven digs; and May Grogan, four kills and a block, an assist and a dig apiece.
In junior varsity play, Morgan City won 25-23, 25-14.
Alexandra Thompson recorded two kills, three blocks and a dig for Morgan City, while Ingram added three aces and digs apiece and two kills.
