CCHS, PHS fall Tuesday

Staff Report

For the final two of three games in its volleyball match Tuesday against Division 1 power Dominican High School, Central Catholic gave the home standing squad nearly all it could handle.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Lady Eagles (9-7) fell, 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-23).

“We fought hard the second and third games,” CCHS coach Kindra Halverson said. “Dominican is a very sound team, and we competed with them the second two sets, which is all I can ask from my squad.”

Despite the loss, Halverson said she was happy with the performance of junior Meo Knight, who led the team in digs (13) and solo blocks (seven) and tied fellow junior Brie Hill for tops in kills (11).

Other CCHS contributors included Hill, 11 kills, four solo blocks and a block assist; Caroline Byrne, a kill, 26 assists and seven digs; Gee Garrett, five kills, two solo blocks and a block assist; and Celine Flores, two kills, one ace and four digs.

CCHS will return to action Thursday when it hosts Breaux Bridge for its homecoming game. Action will begin with junior varsity play at 5 p.m. followed by varsity action.
