CCHS looks to rebound against Bulldogs

From Staff Reports

Central Catholic will hit the road Friday for its week 2 matchup against White Castle High School.

White Castle, two years removed from a Class 1A state championship, is led by first-year head coach Lamar Thomas.

The Bulldogs (1-0) defeated Glen Oaks 30-2 in week 1 action. They run a double slot and Pro-I offense and a 4-2-5 defense, which features four down linemen, two linebackers and five defensive backs.

White Castle returns seven starters from its 2011 squad — four on offense and three on defense.

One hole the Bulldogs will have to replace is the production of All-State running back Tyree Bracken, who now is playing for Southern Miss.

CCHS coach David Fuhrer could not be reached for comment this morning, but he said following Saturday’s 54-31 loss to Loreauville that his squad would have to improve on mistakes it made during its week one matchup.

During the matchup, the Eagles had trouble stopping Loreauville’s running game, which totaled 525 yards.

On offense, the Eagles could not establish a produc-tive running game. However, quarterback Josh Singleton got things going through the air as he passed for 237 yards and three scores.

His biggest threat was receiver Lamar Grogan, who recorded four catches for 135 yards and a score.

Friday’s game will begin at 7 p.m.
