CCHS Lady Eagles nip HMS Lady Tigers
Central Catholic’s Lady Eagles rallied for two runs in the top half of the seventh inning to earned the District 8-A title by pulling out a 6-4 District 8-A win over the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers Thursday at the HMS Lady Tigers Softball Complex.
Hanson (12-9) finished the season as the District 8-A runnerup with a 6-2 league record.
Hanson’s Sarah Sonnier took the mound loss after working seven complete innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and eight walks.
Leading hitters for the Lady Tigers were: Paige Diamond, 2 for 3, homer, double, 3 RBI, run; Kimberly Sonnier, 1 for 3, homer, run, RBI; Brittany Broussard, 1 for 3, run and Evelyn Pontiff, run.
Hanson broke open a scoreless game with one run in the bottom half of the second inning. Central Catholic scored a pair of runs in the top half of the third frame, taking a 2-1 advantage. The Lady Eagles increased their lead to a 4-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Hanson retaliated with one run in the bottom half of the fourth, trimming CCHS’ lead to 4-2. In the bottom half of the sixth frame, Hanson added a pair of runs, knotting the game at 4-4. Central Catholic struck for two insurance runs in the top half of the seventh inning to notch the 6-4 win and the 2013 District 8-A Championship.
