CCHS girls are ranked in prep poll

Central Catholic’s girls basketball teams is ranked No. 3 in the initial Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A girls’ basketball poll.

The Lady Eagles (11-5), are ranked behind district foe Vermilion Catholic, who is No. 2 and West St. John, who is the top-ranked squad and who eliminated the Lady Eagles from the postseason in 2011.

The Lady Eagles are receiving one first-place vote, while West St. John has six and Vermilion Catholic, four.

Two more of Central Catholic and Vermilion Catholic’s district opponents, Hanson Memorial and Gueydan, are receiving votes in the Class 1A poll.

In Class 4A, Morgan City’s district foe Vandebilt Catholic is ranked third, while Ellender, who defeated Morgan City Friday, is receiving votes.

In Class 3A, Berwick’s and Patterson’s districts foes, Abbeville and North Vermilion, are ranked Nos. 7 and 9, respectively.
