CCHS boys, girls win against ACHS
MORGAN CITY — The Central Catholic Eagles dominated Ascension Catholic, 88-45, in nondistrict action Wednesday.
The Eagles, who reached double figures in every quarter, exploded for 30 first-quarter points, while Ascension Catholic put up 11.
The Eagles, while mixing in some subs in the second quarter, still managed to hold Ascension Catholic to their lowest point total of the night with six points, while they put up 14 for a 44-17 halftime advantage.
Nick Case and Tyler Hoffpauir led Central Catholic with 17 points apiece. Case had five three-pointers in the win.
Other top scorers included Dontrell Brown with 14 and Lamar Grogan with nine.
In junior varsity action, Central Catholic defeated Ascension Catholic, 64-24.
Jalen Johnson led Central Catholic with 19 points, while Samarick Paul had 14, and Cedric Gant, 12.
Central Catholic will return to action Friday when it hosts Ellender Memorial. Junior varsity is set for a 5 p.m. start with boys’ varsity to follow the girls’ 6 p.m. varsity contest.
Big second half lifts
Lady Eagles to win
Central Catholic broke a close game open with a big second-half for a 56-34 victory.
While the Lady Eagles were ahead just 21-18 at the half, they outscored Ascension Catholic 35-16 in the second half for the victory.
Meo Knight led Central Catholic with 26 points, nine rebounds, five steals and two assists, while Randi Brown added 19 points, seven rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist.
Other top contributors included Abbie Bergeron, three points, three assists, one block, one steal and a rebound; and Caroline Byrne, two points and five rebounds.
Central Catholic will return to action Friday when it hosts Ellender. Girls’ varsity action is set for a 6 p.m. start.
